"life's a climb, but the view is great"

As the sun rose over Uluru, a keen group of girls prepared themselves for an endurance test through Kings Canyon. The day began with a bright and early start to beat the harsh sun. The 6 km walk was sure not to be just a walk in the park. The challenge started at the beginning with a nearly vertical climb, testing people’s fear of heights and fitness. The view from the top of the Canyon was spectacular, breath taking scenery everywhere we looked. This walk was not only a major test of our determination but also a test of endurance to survive the harshness of the hot sun. As we continued on the remarkable walk we started to realise how confronting this walk was going to be. After about 3km the group had a detour through Garden of Eden. This is a waterhole surrounded by lush plant life. A few girls risked the chilliness of the water to cool off and prepare for the rest of the 3 km walk.

This scenic landscape of rugged ranges, rock-holes, and moist gorges acts as a refuge for many plants and animals, therefore making the Park a significant conservation area as well as a major attraction of central Australia. Kings Canyon has the oldest fern growing amongst the mountain ranges and beside the waterhole. Kings Canyon stands at 270m highs and towers over the Watarrka National Park. The walk is a definitely worth all the pain, sweat and tears. To look over the Kings Canyon from a great height is a life time experience.
